RILEY – THE BEST DOG EVER!! R.I.P. Saturday, Apr 25 2009

It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all Riley got hit by a car last night.  We rushed him to the emergency vet hospital, but he suffered a shattered pelvis and a ruptured bladder, as well as a few other injuries.  Sadly, we had to make the decision to have him put to sleep.  While Stuart came to the house to watch Peter, Mark and I went back to the hospital to say goodbye to Riley.  Riley gave both of us a little kiss, and I held him while he fell asleep.

Peter is having a hard time with this, as he saw Riley get hit.  He does not understand why Riley won’t be coming back home, and we are trying to explain it as clearly aspossible, without scaring him.  I think the best thing for us to do is to go choose a new puppy together as a family.  Riley will never be forgotten.  He was the best, most kind-hearted little guy, and it will be hard to find another dog that could even hold a candle to him.  We are having Riley cremated, and his ashes will be sprinkled in a memorial garden at the hospital.  Thank you all for your kind words and well wishes.  Also, a million thanks to the The Folse family, for rushing over at 10p.m. to watch Peter.

Thank You to My Hubby Tuesday, Apr 21 2009

I am so grateful for Mark!  Last week marked my 2 year anniversary with Cardinal.  During this time, Mark has really had to take on a lot more tasks, and has done so with gusto!  He knows how happy I am in my career, and it means the world to me to have his unending support.  THANKS MARK ~ I LOVE YOU!!!

Pregnancy Update 04.21.09 Tuesday, Apr 21 2009

Only 4 more days until we find out whether we decorate in PINK or BLUE!!  Our appointment is on Saturday afternoon, and we are so excited that Peter is coming with us to share in the moment.  We will be sure to let everyone know as soon as we learn whether it is a boy or a girl.  Peter is completely convinced that it is a girl.  I know they say that all mothers have an instinct about the sex of their baby, but I was completely wrong with Peter, so I don’t trust my gut, which, by the way, is growing bigger day by day!

The Original Bud’s Broiler Tuesday, Apr 21 2009

Well, the baby sure was happy with his/her first trip to Bud’s Broiler!!  Unbeknowst to us, we went to the original Bud’s Broiler in City Park THE DAY that it finally re-opened post Hurricane Katrina.  The vibe was absolutely amazing!!  The only thing better – BB’s was having a dry run, so all of their AMAZING food was FREEEEEE!  I especially took advantage of all of the yummy grub, and ate 2 #7s!  It was such a special sight to see Peter and Mark enjoying themselves.  BB’s was such a special place for me and my father growing up, and I felt like I was passing on the tradition to Peter.  While we forgot the camera (AAARGH!!), we purchased a limited edition original print commemorating the reopening, and met the artist, who signed it for us!   If you are ever in New Orleans, there is no place like the original Bud’s Broiler in City Park.

Daddy’s Finally Feeling Better! Thursday, Apr 2 2009

After being hit with a horrible case of strep throat, Mark is finally on the mend.  Just in time to work in the yard this weekend – perfect timing!  Peter took very good care of Daddy, and made it perfectly clear that Daddy has bad “worms”, which we kept correcting – GERMS, not worms!  Your patient appreciates all of your healing powers, Dr. Peter.

Craaaaazy Cravings! Thursday, Apr 2 2009

So, I actually woke up at 3:00 a.m. last night with the strongest craving for…. a BUD’S BROILER #7!!!  For those of you who have never heard of Bud’s Broiler, it is a New Orleans tradition, and they serve the best burgers and hot dogs you have ever tasted!  My dad always took me to Bud’s Broiler as a kid, and I have the fondest memories of waiting in line with him and placing my order for a #7 – charbroiled hot dog with chili, grated cheese and onions, along with a root beer over “crunchy” ice.  Nothing in this world is better.  When we are in Mandeville in a few weeks, you can bet I will make the trip “across the pond” and wait in line for my #7.  More than anything, though, I cannot wait to bring Peter and Mark to this historic New Orleans landmark.  If only my dad was here to join us on Peter’s first trip to BB… but I am sure he’s looking down on us from the big barbeque in the sky!
